Dr Jonathan Bloor is the Medical Director at System C, where he supports business development activities across the organisation and helps shape the future direction of digital health technology.

Jonathan studied medicine at the University of Bristol before spending 15 years working in the Bristol area, ultimately becoming a general surgeon. During this time, he became increasingly interested in how technology could improve communication between clinical teams and support safer patient care.

Recognising a significant challenge in the way clinicians coordinated care, Jonathan co-founded CareFlow Connect alongside Dr Jon Shaw. The business grew successfully before being acquired by System C in 2016, marking the start of Jonathan’s journey with us.

Supporting the Future of Healthcare

As Medical Director, Jonathan’s role spans several areas of the business, including sales, marketing, clinical services, product development and clinical safety. Much of his time is spent speaking with customers and healthcare organisations across the UK, helping them navigate digital transformation and understand how technology can support care delivery.

Jonathan is also involved in several strategic initiatives that will influence the future of System C’s roadmap. This includes important conversations around the future evolution of BadgerNet and the Single Patient Record.

Day-to-day, Jonathan also plays a significant role in shaping our approach to AI, helping to understand what is needed, develop business cases and contribute to the organisation’s healthcare AI strategy.

Building Relationships Across the NHS

One aspect of the role Jonathan particularly enjoys is engaging with healthcare leaders and stakeholders across the UK and New Zealand.

Through events, conferences and customer engagement activities, he gains valuable insight into the priorities of different healthcare organisations and the role that digital transformation can play in supporting national healthcare strategies. These opportunities have allowed him to build relationships and collaborate with organisations that are focused on improving patient care through technology.

Looking Ahead

Jonathan’s favourite part of being the Medical Director at System C is the forward-looking work that explores how technology will shape healthcare in the years ahead.
In particular, he is passionate about the future impact of AI on healthcare delivery and how digital solutions can help organisations continue to provide high-quality care for patients.

Jonathan believes the next five years will be an important and transformational time for health and social care. With an ageing population and the social determinants of health creating increasing demand, Jonathan sees technology as playing an important role in creating a sustainable future for the NHS and social care.

Healthcare and digital innovation have been constants all the way through Jonathan’s career, and he expects that to remain the case. Alongside his work at System C, he also supports a digital health SME, allowing him to draw upon experience gained in large organisations.

Unexpected Opportunities

His career journey has also led to some once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, including visits to Downing Street and Windsor Castle. When reflecting on these experiences, he explained that he sees them as part of a unique journey that has taken him from practising doctor to entrepreneur to helping shape the future of healthcare technology.
