The future of healthcare, social care, and education is being shaped by AI, resource allocation, and connecting care to deliver value for money. These were the key conclusions drawn by leading industry figures at System C’s annual flagship conference, UserCon.

On 22nd May, over 550 delegates attended System C UserCon 2025 at the ICC in Birmingham. One of the only events which brings together professionals from across healthcare, social care, and education to reconnect, share insights, and explore the future of digital transformation in the sector.

This year’s conference marked a significant milestone, with a record attendance.

The agenda was packed with discussions and insights, which included exploring the industries’ latest trends, product roadmaps and key talking points.

“DNA of a Champion” – Lessons from Sir Clive Woodward

The day opened with a powerful keynote from Sir Clive Woodward, whose session, “DNA of a Champion,” explored the mindset required to lead effectively under pressure. Drawing on his experience from England’s Rugby World Cup win in 2003, Sir Clive introduced the analogy of being a ‘rock’ versus a ’sponge.’ Describing how people who are ‘rocks’ resist change as they are closed to new ideas. Individuals who are ‘sponges’, think differently and have a willingness to absorb information and develop.

“Be a sponge, not a rock.” Sir Clive Woodward

His message resonated deeply with attendees, especially in the context of health and social care, where adaptability and continuous development are essential to navigating industry challenges.

Exploring the Future of Digital in Maternity and Neonatal Services

Another standout moment of the day was the panel discussion, “The Future of Digital in Maternity and Neonatal Services.” The panel featured Jules Gudgeon, Chief Midwifery Information Offer from NHS England, Jonathan Bloor, Medical Director at System C, Sam Oddie National Clinical Lead for Neonatal Audit Program, Anna Dijkstra, Director of UK Healthcare from Microsoft, and Anastasia Chalkidou, Programme Director at NICE.

Together, they explored the evolving role of digital transformation in integrated care and the importance of cross-sector collaboration.

During the panel discussion, it was noted in some instances only around 40% of data is being captured. However, there could be significant potential to increase this with the support of AI.

The panel also highlighted that technologies like ambient listening are already emerging to enhance data collection, which could provide major support in a clinician’s role. There was a lengthy discussion on the importance of encouraging a more open mindset towards digital transformation, rather becoming a digital disruptor.

The session also sparked valuable dialogue with delegates around the opportunities and challenges facing digital roles today.

Introducing the AI Assistants

UserCon 2025 also saw the official launch of the Liquidlogic AI Assistant, a cutting-edge AI-powered tool designed to support social workers. The AI Assistant helps to raise efficiencies by transcribing conversations and delivering actionable insights to aid faster, more informed decision making.

Sessions also covered the launch of our brand-new Healthcare AI “Assistant,” a powerful tool designed to revolutionise clinical documentation and patient care. This innovative AI Assistant, available as part of CareFlow EPR, leverages a secure and compliant Microsoft-hosted version of the ChatGPT large language model (LLM). It interprets transcripts and content from clinicians, integrates EPR-specific configuration information, and generates structured draft documentation, including handovers, patient-identified referrals between hospital teams, and patient-identified tasks.

These innovation solutions represent a major step forward in how AI can enhance frontline practice, reduce admin, and provide safer outcomes for all.

Bringing Children’s Social Care, Education and Finance Closer Together

Presented by Mark Smith and Kelly Traverse, this session successfully highlighted the vital connections between children’s social care, education, and finance. The presenters shared innovative strategies to integrate these sectors, aiming to enhance support systems for children and families. Attendees gained valuable insights into collaborative approaches that streamline services, improve outcomes, and foster a more holistic understanding of children’s needs.

“Overall, the UserCon session sparked engaging discussions among professionals from various fields, who shared their experiences and challenges. The collaborative atmosphere encouraged participants to envision a more cohesive future for services, where integrated efforts lead to better support and improved outcomes for adults and children’s social care and education” remarked Amrik Johal, Managing Director Social Care, System C.

Revolutionising Maternity Care

Hosted by Elaine Fyfe, Clinical Transformation Specialist at System C, Isabella Smart, Midwife Manager from Te Whatu Ora Manukau Health, and Shereen Bryan, Senior Clinical Transformation Specialist at System C, the Digital Midwife Roundtable reflected on the rapid evolution of digital tools in maternity care. The discussion began with a look back to 2020, when data was limited and midwives were just learning to adapt to digital documentation.

Echoing the thoughts from the neonatal session the panel agreed, the introduction of speech-to-text technology has enabled midwives to spend more time delivering care and less time on admin. This shift is helping to improve pregnancy outcomes, make limited resources go further, and support safe, effective and timely care. With ongoing workforce shortages, the session highlighted how digital innovation is playing a vital role in making full midwifery care possible.

“The healthcare sessions at UserCon 2025 were truly enlightening. They showcased cutting-edge innovations and fostered meaningful discussions on improving patient care and streamlining healthcare services. It’s inspiring to see so many professionals dedicated to advancing the field and making a tangible difference in people’s lives.” Guy Lucchi, Managing Director Healthcare, System C

Although, this isn’t a full rundown of the day’s events at UserCon 2025, it gives a clear picture of the variety of content shared. Overall, the day’s sessions were a resounding success, leaving attendees inspired and equipped with practical ideas to bring these crucial sectors closer together.
