Barts Health Selects BadgerNet to Transform Paperless Maternity Services for Families Across East London

Barts Health NHS Trust is transforming maternity care for over 17,000 families annually by adopting BadgerNet’s as its digital maternity solution in a new five-year partnership.

As one of England’s largest NHS trusts, Barts Health serves a diverse East London population across its three sites; Whipps Cross, Newham University Hospital and The Royal London. This investment replaces outdated paper-based systems with digital records and is part of the trust’s ambition to provide more equitable, accessible and personalised care.

Enhancing Access & Safety with BadgerNet

Crucially, the platform will allow expectant mothers and families to access information in multiple languages and easy-read formats, promoting greater autonomy and understanding throughout the pregnancy and postnatal journey. BadgerNet also supports the nationally recognised Birmingham Symptom-specific Obstetric Triage System (BSOTS), enabling improved responsiveness to urgent and emergency care for pregnant women across all three sites.

Additionally, the rollout aligns with the ambitions of the Best Start in Life programme being driven by the North East London Integrated Care Board. As part of this initiative, Barts Health and its neighbouring providers are working to create a fully integrated maternity and neonatal network. The goal is for clinicians to access a single, shared record for each woman and baby, regardless of where they receive care in the region, ultimately helping reduce delays, duplication and disparities in care.

Empowering Families Through Technology

We were particularly impressed by System C’s commitment to keeping pace with national clinical priorities and the ability to integrate BadgerNet with our existing digital infrastructure.”

Following a comprehensive procurement process, BadgerNet Maternity stood out for its accessibility, flexibility and readiness to support the growing demands of maternity services in the region. The platform’s seamless integration with the trust’s existing Oracle Cerner system was a key factor in the decision, ensuring that existing digital processes such as imaging, prescribing and neonatal care can remain consistent and interoperable.

Barts Health will begin implementation of the system at the end of 2025, with go-live scheduled for 2026.
