Highlights of the Agenda

One of the key highlights of the day was the keynote address from Wes Streeting MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, who delivered a clear message.

The NHS is beginning to turn a corner, and a new model of care is on the horizon.

He opened by highlighting recent progress. Revealing that for the first time in 17 years, NHS waiting lists fell in April, which is traditionally the busiest month for elective care.

Since taking office, Streeting stated that the government has successfully delivered 3.6 million more appointments than the previous year, diagnosed 187,000 more suspected cancer patients within 28 days, and reduced waiting lists by nearly a quarter of a million.

Streeting linked this progress to the government’s broader Plan for Change, reinforced by the latest Spending Review.

The key investments include:

  • £10 billion to modernise NHS technology, with a 50% increase in the tech budget
  • Thousands of new GPs to strengthen health services
  • Mental health support in every school
  • The highest-ever capital investment to rebuild NHS infrastructure
  • A record £29 billion annual funding increase by 2028/29

10-Year Plan for Health

Looking ahead, Streeting outlined the forthcoming 10-Year Plan for Health, with a focus on three major shifts.

  • From hospital to community care
  • From analogue to digital systems
  • From reactive treatment to prevention

This transformation, he said, will prepare the NHS for the future of genomics, AI, and predictive medicine.

Crucially, Streeting explains that the plan will shift from activity to outcomes, supported by new incentives, freedoms, and higher standards for leadership.

As an active participant at NHS ConfedExpo 2025, we were proud to be on the ground, engaging with system leaders from across the country. NHS ConfedExpo provided us a valuable opportunity to absorb insights, explore emerging priorities, and listen directly to the challenges and ambitions shaping the future of health and care. These conversations continue to inform our approach and reaffirm our commitment to supporting the sector with solutions that are aligned, responsive, and built for impact.

System C is proud to support the NHS in delivering on these priorities. Through interoperable digital solutions that span health and social care, we can help to empower organisations to connect services, harness data, and deliver more efficient patient-centred care.
