BadgerNet’s suite of digital solutions, including BadgerNet Early Pregnancy and Gynaecology Unit (EPAGU), BadgerNet Maternity and BadgerNet Neonatal EPR support the entire perinatal journey, ensuring seamless data sharing across services.
This blog explores in detail how our BadgerNet products share data, supporting both clinicians and women throughout the perinatal journey. During our webinar ‘Joining up the Perinatal Journey with BadgerNet’ our experts used a ‘digital umbilical cord’ analogy to demonstrate how data is transferred between the products.
The Digital Umbilical Cord
Just as an umbilical cord provides a link between mother and unborn baby, the digital umbilical cord ensures all critical information and events are shown within the pregnancy and neonatal record throughout the entire pregnancy. When a trust has BadgerNet EPAGU, Maternity and Neonatal EPR, clinicians can readily access key information when a woman or baby moves between departments. This allows for more personalised care as well as increased confidence in the information provided when women move between services across multidisciplinary teams.
BadgerNet EPAGU – Before the Bump
BadgerNet EPAGU directly supports women who require emergency and critical Early Pregnancy care. The solution helps clinicians to provide the best possible care during some of the most distressing times. EPAGU replaces what can be typically fragmented records with a central, accessible system, which bridges the gap between the Early Pregnancy Unit and the Maternity Units. The solution also lays the foundation for the digital cord by linking EPAGU with BadgerNet Maternity to ensure seamless data flow. This allows multidisciplinary teams to follow workflows which are aligned with national guidance. The EPAGU record, when linked, is accessible on the BadgerNet Maternity record as a PDF summary allowing clinicians to see any early pregnancy care throughout the pregnancy. This visibility is especially important at the booking appointment.
The BadgerNet EPAGU module, available to BadgerNet Maternity users, provides real-time recording of early pregnancy and gynaecology events for both inpatients and outpatients, extending the BadgerNet paperless record. Functionality like early warning scoring, alert flags, configurable task lists and clinical pathways, means BadgerNet EPAGU facilitates a paperless unit. The solution integrates directly with all ultrasounds, lab and blood tests, and includes documentation for both outpatient and inpatient settings.
BadgerNet Maternity – Bump to Birth
BadgerNet Maternity is where the Digital Umbilical Cord is truly linked up and captures all clinical insights from booking to birth. Every note and decision become a part of the cord, ensuing the baby’s story begins with clarity and continuity.
The Digital Umbilical Cord is a personalised care pathway that reflects the risks, preferences, and clinical needs of the woman or pregnant person. Ensuring the clinicians are fully informed throughout the pregnancy journey.
BadgerNet Maternity is a comprehensive solution that enables the real-time recording of events as well as the care given throughout a pregnancy, from pre-conception to postnatal and with the addition of Early Pregnancy and Gynaecological care. The solution offers locally configurable pathways as well as tasks which align with national standards and regulations. As a centrally hosted solution, trusts have the option to opt into the Single Pregnancy Record (SPR), meaning for each woman who is cared for in the maternity unit they have a record that can be accessed by other maternity services. This allows clinicians from different BadgerNet sites access to one record, supporting clinical safety.
BadgerNet Neonatal EPR – Baby’s First Record
BadgerNet Maternity and Neonatal ensure neonatal teams are informed of the baby and family before they are admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Information such as maternal medical history, antenatal findings, foetal medicine reports, labour resuscitation measures and safeguarding flags information pulls through at admission, helping clinicians make informed decisions in the NICU. However just like the physical cord it needs to be clamped and cut after a certain point in the baby’s care. This is to ensure handover is timely, accurate and complete whilst maintaining privacy and confidentiality of both parent and baby.
BadgerNet Neonatal EPR offers a fully paperless system for real-time event recording across various neonatal environments, including hospitals, communities, and transport. It creates a comprehensive record with features such as interfaces, charting, and care plans, eliminating the need for other documentation. The ‘One Baby, One View’ record, ensures that if a baby moves to another unit, clinicians can access the record from the previous unit.
What It Means for Your Teams
By utilising BadgerNet EPAGU, Maternity and Neonatal EPR, healthcare professionals can create and contribute to a complete record throughout the perinatal journey. This allows clinicians to be consistently informed throughout the whole journey, making sure that information doesn’t fall through the cracks.
