Ella Bosworth started her career as a midwife at 18 years old. She studied at university and then went straight into Clinical Practice at 21 years old, her role was a delivery suite midwife at the time.

Senior Digital, Communications & Engagement Programme Manager

During her career as a midwife Ella suffered some health issues regarding her back and she found it increasingly more difficult to do the job she loved, she was told that an opportunity had arose in a digital role. She happily took up the role but was sceptical of the type of work she would be doing; she had the perception that digital roles were going to be quite lacklustre compared to her previous role. She claims that lots of individuals believed that digital roles were going to be very straightforward, and that they typically consist of sitting on a computer all day. However, she soon came to the realisation that it is much more than that and the impact which you can have on people is immense. From there Ella has stayed within the digital environment and she has progressed her way up to different roles on the career ladder.

Taking Over As Lead Digital Midwife

Ella took over the lead digital midwife role due to restructuring in her workplace, she then found the Aspiring Digital Leadership Programme which she thought would really help her after taking up this new lead role. Ella struggled with Imposter Syndrome, which is a common term when individuals doubt their talents amongst other professionals who have more experience. She decided to opt into the programme to develop her skills within leadership and her confidence. Another key reason why Ella was so keen was due to how System C was sponsoring the course, this meant that she could also meet other individuals within System C. This was an excellent networking experience for Ella as these opportunities are quite rare within the NHS.

Current Role & Gratitude for The Digital Programme

The Aspiring Digital Leadership Programme also highlighted to Ella that she does have a voice; despite her younger age the programme helped her find the skills to communicate with other professionals.

Soon after Ella started the programme she briefly worked as an EPR Transformation Specialist which helped her develop different skills and a unique perspective. She has now moved on to a Senior Digital Communications and Engagement Programme Manager where she works alongside very experienced midwives daily. Ella is very grateful to the Aspiring Digital Leadership Programme, as it has paved the way in helping her to get a brand-new role. Initially, when she read through the job description, she thought it was not suitable for her as she was still developing her career, so she believed that she wasn’t sure that she was knowledgeable enough at the time. After much deliberation Ella took a risk thanks to the programme, and claims it was a positive step in her career.

Looking Towards The Future

In the future Ella wants to shape her new role she has acquired to make sure that it is fit for what the system needs and what our beloved trusts deserve. She also aspires to shout louder for the digital midwifes and become an advocate for not just the trust but for the role in general to help pave the way for others.

“I am a big advocate for the course, I always recommend it to the new starters, and if someone says to me, I just feel like I do not know what I am doing. You need to do this course… You will feel a lot better.”
