Social Work Week is an annual celebration of Social Work in the UK. Social Work Week takes place on Monday 16 to Friday 20 March 2026, and will coincide with World Social Work Day on Tuesday 17 March 2026.
The week offers an opportunity to pause, reflect upon and celebrate the contribution Social Workers make to communities every single day.
The Role of Social Workers Today
Across children’s services, adult social care, mental health teams, community services, hospitals, and educational settings, social workers provide vital support to people during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
Whether they are providing support for families, guiding someone through a tough time or advocating for adults who may struggle to have their voices heard.
People are facing increasingly complex challenges and as a result social workers must adapt to these changes. They have a responsibility to respond with compassion and resilience all while ensuring that the people they support achieve the best possible outcomes.
Why Social Work Week Matters
Social Work Week creates an opportunity to improve public understanding of the profession and shine a light on a workforce whose contributions are often left unseen.
At System C, we encourage more people to reflect on the challenges social workers are facing and the skills they bring. We believe that their commitment can really make a difference in improving people’s lives.
Celebrating the Impact of Social Workers
The work social workers often pass under the radar however, their support often means that families can remain safely together, individuals can rebuild their mental health, vulnerable adults receive advocacy and protection and people facing major life transitions do not have to navigate them alone.
Strengthening Communities by Creating Positive Impacts
Social Work Week is a meaningful reminder of the dedication and expertise social workers bring to their roles.
Even after Social Work Week ends, it remains essential that we continue to recognise their contributions and to maintain awareness and appreciation long after the celebrations end.
