System C presents leading HSJ award to Invatech Health Ltd

25th November 2016

On Wednesday night, System C presented Invatech Health with a prestigious award for delivering real improvements to care through the use of technology.

Along with the collaborating companies, which included Beacon Digital and Cardiff University, Invatech Health was selected for a project that was partly funded by the Welsh Government and has transformed medicines management in care homes. The project was independently evaluated and has evidenced improvements in patient safety and significant reductions in medicines waste.

System C, sponsors of the HSJ ‘improving care with technology’ award made the presentation to Invatech Health at the HSJ Awards 2016 ceremony held on Wednesday night at the O2 InterContinental, London.

The winning project was based on the innovative Proactive Care System (PCS) which includes the InvaLife secure online portal and the CAPA pharmacy dispensing system, to develop a two-way closed loop model, enabling real-time data sharing between nurses and carers and the pharmacist. PCS provides a wealth of clinical information about the care home residents and their medication which can be viewed by clinicians and pharmacists to make informed decisions about an individual’s treatment options.

“This is a brilliant example of how technology can be used intelligently to help change traditional approaches and improve care outcomes”, said Dr Ian Denley, Joint Chief Executive of System C.

“Invatech Health has introduced a digital medicines management solution with minimum capital outlay, using existing technologies, and has reduced medicines waste. It has also significantly improved the safety of care offered to patients by providing visibility of medicines and a controlled workflow” Dr Denley explained.

The suite has now been rolled out to over 9,000 residents in care homes across the UK.

Overall, nine projects were shortlisted for the HSJ IT award. Criteria for entry included making use of IT to improve patient outcomes and organisation efficiency, engaging with clinicians and patients, supporting new ways of working, and mainstreaming working between trusts and the private sector.
