Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Partners with System C to Deliver Integrated EPR.

11th July 2022

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RJAH) has finalised a 10-year contract with System C to deliver an integrated Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system.

Following an extensive procurement process, which began in April 2021, using Digital Aspirant funding, the leading orthopaedic centre of excellence will roll out a new EPR programme supporting the delivery of the Trust’s strategy, putting digital at the forefront.

RJAH is a specialist hospital with a reputation for innovation, the Trust provides a comprehensive range of musculoskeletal surgical, medical and rehabilitation services; locally, regionally and nationally.  It is located in Oswestry, Shropshire, close to the border with Wales, meaning it serves the people of both England and Wales.

System C’s advanced core solution will bring electronic notes to all wards, with electronic prescribing, the ability to order tests electronically and received the results, and allow patients to modify their own appointments, transforming the way over 1400 members of staff work and deliver care. Once complete, the major digital transformation programme will provide staff with the right information at the right time to deliver the best possible care.

Further new functionality will include managing patient flow with key information made available on electronic ward whiteboards, care coordination with electronic clinical handovers, team to team referrals, alerts and team communications, as well as a clinical narrative module and theatre management using seamless integration with Bluespier’s leading software.

Simon Adams, Digital Director at RJAH commented: “This is a very exciting development for the Trust and wider integrated care system (ICS).  The new system will enable the Trust to deliver better and more joined up care for our patients through a secure and modern platform, enabling our patients and staff to communicate digitally and improve the quality and safety of our services."

"The programme team and I are looking forward to progressing this important digital transformation to help improve staff’s working lives and care for our patients."

The Trust already uses System C’s CareFlow e-observations and medicines management modules that will be integrated with the EPR. System C is also a strategic Care Alliance partner with Graphnet that powers the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin ICS’s shared care record - One Health and Care, which the EPR will eventually feed into.

Nick Wilson, CEO of System C, said: "RJAH is a great Trust with a strong EPR vision to improve quality and safety, we are delighted to be working with the Trust. One of RJAH’s key requirements is to enable greater cross boundary working and support population health to deliver the local ICS agenda. We’ve developed CareFlow EPR over recent years to make it ICS ready and I’m pleased we can fully support their needs to deliver services within an integrated model."

System C has begun developing a EPR blueprint that will enable Trusts to identify gaps and create a comprehensive, actionable digital transformation roadmap to achieve higher levels of digitisation, HIMSS 5 and beyond, along with the new Minimum Digital Foundations requirements.
