Isle of Man achieves paperless digital milestone

7th June 2017

The Isle of Man Government has successfully integrated IMMJ Systems’ electronic document management system with its Medway patient administration and electronic patient record system, an important milestone in the Island’s drive towards digital health records by 2018.

The integration is part of a digitisation programme for Noble’s Hospital and the Island’s care services designed to increase efficiency and deliver enhanced patient care, itself a wider part of the Isle of Man Government’s Digital Strategy.

The hospital has scanned paper-based medical and maternity records and made them available to clinical and clerical workers using IMMJ’s MediViewer electronic document management system.  Users can access the documents via a patient-context link in Medway.

The new functionality means clinical and clerical staff can find and read all the relevant information about a patient quickly, when it is needed, from almost any web-enabled device. Multiple healthcare workers can access the same or different records simultaneously.

Benefits also include considerable savings in time previously spent filing, searching and retrieving paper notes.

Richard Wild, Chief Information & Digital Officer at the Isle of Man’s Department of Health and Social Care, said: “It was very important to us to find a solution for the integration that met all our user requirements, to ensure that we had everyone’s buy-in.  We are really pleased with the results.  The system is intuitive and fast and an important next step in our goal to be use digital records by the end of 2018”.

MediViewer has been built specifically for healthcare and to help deliver a paperless NHS. It enables hospitals to scan, index and archive paper medical records and access them quickly through an intuitive user interface.

System C’s broad range of products are at the core of an integrated health and social care service on the Isle of Man, which brings together health, social care and community services. As well as the Medway EPR, this island-wide system also includes System C’s maternity, social care and shared care record solutions.

Markus Bolton, joint CEO at System C, said: “It’s great to be working in partnership with IMMJ to support the Isle of Man with their transformation plan towards a digital environment.

“We’re excited to move to the plan’s next step to introduce additional clinical noting capabilities within Medway”.
