System C Healthcare wins major IT contract with Isle of Man Government DHSS

System C Healthcare plc is delighted to announce that the company and its products have been chosen by the Isle of Man Government Department of Health & Social Security (DHSS) to provide an island-wide healthcare IT service. System C will be installing software solutions both at the Nobles hospital in Douglas and throughout the island's community services to provide a fully integrated Clinical Care Support Service (CCSS) serving all care settings.

The contract with the DHSS is a three phase framework contract with an estimated value of £7.5m over seven years. The bulk of the software is expected to be delivered in 2007/8.

At Nobles' Hospital, on the outskirts of the Island's capital, Douglas, System C will be providing its MedWay Electronic Patient Record system to manage all clinical and administrative requirements. MedWay comprises an advanced Patient Administration System (PAS) and a clinical workstation with test results, orders, clinical noting, correspondence, integrated X-Ray viewing and clinical data collection and analysis.

System C will also be providing a range of integrated departmental solutions including document tracking, maternity, pharmacy, theatres, prescribing and accident and emergency. Its HealthData Manager suite will provide statistical and management reporting facilities, and links to both new and existing specialist systems will be provided using the Rhapsody interface engine. This will enable clinicians workling across the island to be given access to electronic care pathways via the CCSS.

The community aspects of the CCSS programme will include social services, community (GP and Pharmacy services) and mental health applications as well as an ambulance system.

All of the island's healthcare systems will be linked together using a single consolidated patient index and an island-wide electronic health record, allowing care providers to view a consolidated and shared record of each islander's healthcare details.

A unique feature of the programme is the extremely tight integration of third party products into the overall solution. Systems such as the Eclipse Maternity System are completely integrated with MedWay so that users can enter maternity details or view X-rays directly from MedWay screens.

System C's founding director Markus Bolton said "This is an exciting project which aims to facilitate closer working between all health and social care professionals on the island. It is also the first Electronic Patient Record procurement for some time and we are delighted to have won against such a large and competitive field. System C has an excellent delivery record of these types of systems and we look forward to bringing real benefits to patients, clinicians and all health service users."

System C Chief Executive, Ian Denley, commented, "We are delighted to have been chosen by the Isle of Man Government. This reinforces the strength of our Medway product and our group services and underpins market consensus products forecasts for next year".

Roger Godfrey, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Nobles Hospital and clinical lead for the programme said "We chose System C because they understood the island's requirements and showed us a product set which closely matched what we needed. The way System C has integrated the various components of the solution will allow us to bring on board different departments in a manageable way over the next couple of years. We are very pleased to have found such a proactive and knowledgeable partner."
