Infection control systems

System C's Infection Control system (known as Kings Infection Control System [KICS]) provides cost effective patient infection control surveillance and reporting that allows NHS Trusts to comply with the Hygiene Code.

KICS has been developed in conjunction with Kings College Hospital London.  The system offers a comprehensive solution supporting patient-based infection control surveillance and reporting. Controlling the acquisition and spread of multiple-resistant organisms in healthcare is an important part of the infection control team's duties. In most instances information on alert organisms is collated via the microbiology laboratory and then supplemented with clinical information by visiting the patient. A National Audit Office (NAO) report showed most infection control teams were using paper-based systems and only a few NHS Trusts had computer systems available to infection control teams.

Simple to use and easy to set up
KICS is a fully integrated system with seamless interfaces to both the PAS (for demographic data) and the Microbiology Laboratory Information Management system (LIMS) to offer an automated transfer of information. It has its own user definable rules engine allowing users to set up what constitutes an 'alert organism' or 'infection'.  The system is menu driven and intuitive, allowing users to view information on individual patient records or lists of inpatients. Data can be collated on alert organism patterns by wards or patient groups. This can then be used to produce either standard or customised reports.

Features include:

The software can be fully customised offering users full flexibility to configure the system to their needs. The system can be configured to meet local needs in a web based format that is both innovative and integrates key systems.

Reduction of Infection and Time Saving
KICS is designed to automate the collection of data required by the infection control team. The data provides real time alerts and reports which help the team to implement the appropriate actions more quickly, saving time which in turn helps to reduce the incidences of hospital acquired infection.

KICS is also available as an integrated module of the Medway Sigma EPR.
