HealthData Validator is a tool that validates extracts in a flat text file using pre-defined rules. It speeds up the data migration process significantly by reducing the number of data migration iterations usually required when loading extracted and transformed data to the replacement system.

HealthData Validator is currently configured to support data migrations to:

• CSC Alliance Reference Solution

Our experience has shown that the current data validation process is extremely time consuming and iterative, both for Trusts and LSPs. HealthData Validator gives the Trust full control over the process of identifying and correcting errors in the data prior to submission to the LSP and thus reduces significantly the number of iterations received and processed by the LSP.

HealthData Validator produces error reports which show both the dataset of the error and the specific record affected by the error.

HealthData Validator contains hundreds of validation rules, including the following examples:

• Basic file structure
• Mandatory field completion
• Formatting e.g. dates and times
• Coded data fields e.g. clinic exists in local reference data; admission method exists in LSP configuration
• Chronological sequences e.g. discharge date is after admission date
• Referential integrity e.g. an appointment is linked to a referral
