Vitalpac is an award-winning ‘Personal Assistant for Clinicians’. A highly-intuitive mobile decision support solution for recording patient observations in real time. Vitalpac significantly improves patient safety, ward efficiency and compliance with care protocols.
Always on, always mobile
Even in the event of a power, network or wi-fi failure, nurses can securely access recent observations, record and save new observations, calculate EWS and be prompted to escalate concerns. Once the network is restored, all new data is simply uploaded to the server.
Inputting and accessing data
At the bedside, nurses use an iPod Touch or iPad to input and access patient data. Software running on these devices is thoroughly tested to maintain Vitalpac’s Class 1 medical device status.
Ward and hospital managers, critical care outreach, Infection prevention and control pain teams can see real-time information about patients from any device connected to the hospital network.
Intuitive and easy to use
Since it was first launched in 2005, Vitalpac has evolved considerably. A great deal of time spent working alongside nurses who are using the software has been translated into ergonomic and display refinements.
This has resulted in Vitalpac being incredibly intuitive to use and fast to learn. New users require fifteen minutes of training to be in a position to safely move from standard paper-based procedures to an entirely paper-free way of working.
Vitalpac organises the data required for analysis and reporting of observations, escalations, workload and compliance. The data is available at ward or Trust level via any portable or desktop device connected to the hospital network.
Performance reporting provides evidence for internal and external scrutiny (e.g. CQC) without the need for additional software.
PAS, EPR, barcodes and RFID, patient monitors
“Medway BI and Vitalpac together have the capability to make real-time performance on the critical clinical issue of sepsis, visible in all clinical areas. One third of deaths in the hospital in 2014-15 were coded as having a sepsis related diagnosis. Medway BI Data Visualisation will enable continuous assurance that all patients developing sepsis receive optimal care. Speed and consistency are key to surviving sepsis. Not all deaths are avoidable, but we’ve already seen approx. 10% drop in sepsis associated deaths since beginning to deploy Vitalpac. A system that enables us to monitor delivery of the sepsis care bundle real-time, allowing everyone to see if we have small delays, will build on the improvements in mortality already achieved, whilst also reducing the costs of providing outstanding care.”
