IQ Systems Services, part of the System C group of companies, has announced that its IQUtopia patient management and electronic patient record software has successfully gone live at the new Havant NHS Diagnostics Centre.

It is the fifth successful implementation of the IQUtopia software in treatment centres operated by the health and social care provider, Care UK plc.

The new Havant centre provides NHS patients in the area with a greater availability of diagnostic services and reduced waiting times for diagnostic investigations.  It is contracted by the Department of Health to carry out over 11,000 x-ray, 4,600 ultrasound, 1,200 echocardiograms and 600 MRI scans a year. Patients are referred to the services either by their GP or by consultant orthopaedic surgeons working at the Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

Richard Jordan, Care UK's secondary care business systems manager, explained that the design of the IQUtopia software was ideally suited to a fast-growing company operating across multiple sites. "Unlike other patient administration applications which demand a full implementation lifecycle, IQUtopia lets us configure another treatment centre in the database, and then go live with it, quickly and without fuss. This is a huge benefit to a business like Care UK as we open additional facilities across the UK".

Simon Harvey, manager of the Havant NHS Diagnostics Centre, said he was delighted to have invested in the latest and best technology as well as in well-qualified diagnostics staff. "This technology provides excellent support to our team of professionals, helping them fulfil their commitment to provide quality care to our patients", he said.

Waiting times for diagnostic examinations will be reduced to 3 to 4 weeks, with diagnostic reports provided within 48 hours to referring clinicians.

IQ director Gary Davies described the installation of IQUtopia across five Care UK sites as a fantastic achievement. "The fact the system uses a single database brings significant additional organisational advantages. Care UK has quick access to group-wide management information and reports, for example.  The treatment centres are also able to share a common link to the national spine, which reduces the implementation tasks and deployment timescales."
