News | Europe's largest independent treatment centre goes live with Medway Sigma

System C Healthcare has successfully completed the staged implementation of its Medway Sigma Electronic Patient Record and Management system at the Nottingham NHS Treatment Centre.

Located on the campus of the Queen's NHS Medical Centre (QMC), the Nottingham NHS Treatment Centre is the largest Independent Sector Treatment Centre (ISTC) in Europe, capable of dealing with 200,000 patients per year, including 25,000 day surgery and 165,000 outpatient appointments. It is operated by Circle Health on behalf of the NHS.

In addition to being the largest private facility in the UK, this state-of-the-art building is also the largest new facility - taking into account both public and private providers - to have ever achieved accreditation by the Healthcare Commission.

Since the Centre opened in July 2008, Medway Sigma has provided comprehensive support for both clinical and administrative processes undertaken in the Centre's busy outpatient department, five main theatres, three skin surgery theatres and four endoscopy suites.

Additionally, where care pathways are shared between QMC and the Centre users have been provided with access to a patient centric view of all activity undertaken, irrespective of location or specialty. This helps ensure continuity of care and supports patient safety. It was developed collaboratively by System C, Circle and members of the Trust's IM&T department.

The Chief Technology Officer for Circle Richard Atkinson said "System C is dedicated to healthcare and passionate about it.
