System C wins international award for innovation

24 June 2010

System C has won a prestigious international award for innovative software which improves health outcomes and financial efficiency.

The company is overall winner of the 2010 Microsoft Partner of the Year award in the category 'Public sector health partner'. The Microsoft award recognises outstanding innovation and solutions which deliver real benefits to a customer's business.

System C was selected from nearly 3,000 entries drawn from all around the world.

System C won the award for its Clinical Dashboard products. These were developed as part of an ambitious NHS Connecting for Health project to provide clinicians in a very visual format with the information they need to make informed daily decisions about a patient's care.  It was a complex project requiring interfaces to more than fifty different healthcare systems.

Microsoft judges highlighted the fact that System C successfully met all the objectives set at the outset for the project - notably delivering improved quality of clinical outcomes and financial savings.  It was described as "an excellent scalable solution that addresses clinicians' pain points".

Dr Ian Denley, Chief Executive of System C, said: "Our team really enjoyed working on a challenging project with tight timescales and so much clinical support.  We are delighted that the programme has been recognised internationally in this way".

System C's dashboard products are based on Medway BI, the company's business intelligence and data warehouse programmes.  The entire Medway product range - which also includes PAS, Electronic Patient Record and numerous departmental systems including A&E and maternity - are based on the latest Microsoft technologies. Applications and tools including Office, Sharepoint, SQL Server and Reporting Services are integrated throughout the Medway suite.

NHS CFH set up the dashboard programme as a direct response to Lord Darzi's High Quality for Care report. This called for timely, high-quality information to drive the performance of clinical teams and to ensure the right services and best possible care is provided to patients. The Clinical Dashboards pilot project was set up to deliver this commitment.

The dashboards are now installed across the country in the primary and secondary care sectors in acute, PCT, mental health and ambulance Trusts.

"Microsoft is proud to award our valued partner System C Healthcare as the Public Sector, Health Partner of the Year," said Linda Zecher, corporate vice president, Worldwide Public Sector, Microsoft Corp. "System C's Clinical Dashboard solution has delivered proven benefits both in quality of clinical outcomes and financial savings, satisfying client needs."

Dr Denley will be presented with the award at a presentation in the US next month.
